London Masterclass - Figure in Motion

Course Description

This masterclass on sculpting the figure in motion is ideal for artists of all levels who are passionate about exploring figurative sculpture. Over the course of 5 days you will create a sculpture of a dancer in a dynamic pose, working on an armature 70cm high to create your figure in clay. As the aim of the course is to capture movement in sculpture, and the dancer will be holding a physically demanding pose, participants will work by observation of the model for up to two hours each day in addition to working from photographs of the model taken in advance. Whether you are a novice looking to learn the basics or an advanced sculptor aiming to refine your technique, this workshop offers a comprehensive and enriching experience. The course includes a visit to the V&A Museum on the Wednesday afternoon to view figurative work by other sculptors including Rodin. You will learn:- - How to create and adjust an armature according to the pose. - How to add clay to the armature to create the basic shapes. - How to establish the correct proportions. - Some basic anatomy and to observe muscle structure and bone alignment. - Techniques for creating surface texture. Andrian will also be creating a figure to demonstrate his own approach and you will learn about the work of other figurative sculptors. With no more than 7 participants, you can be sure to receive personalised feedback and guidance at each stage of the process. Clay and an armature are provided and included in the price so you will be able to take your work home with you at the end of the course. We recommend you bring an iPad or portable device to be able to work from pictures of the model but a large screen will also be provided. Free tea, coffee, biscuits and cake will be available throughout each course but please bring your own lunch.
